Poland has summarized the first results of the EES system, which controls the entry of foreigners into the European Union. Since its launch, nearly 6.8 million border crossings have been recorded through the new system, and thousands of people have been denied entry. This is reported by inPoland.

Poland recorded thousands of entry refusals due to the EES

The EES system started operating in test mode in the fall of 2025. During this time, Polish border guards registered nearly 6.8 million border crossings.

Thanks to the new system, 9400 foreigners were identified who were denied entry to the country.

Since April 10, 2026, the EES has been operating at all border points in Poland. In less than a month after the full launch, foreigners crossed the border more than 1 million times through the new system.

Around 250,000 citizens from non-EU countries have also been registered in the database.

What is the EES system and how does it work?

The EES is a European system for controlling the entry and exit of foreigners, which automatically records border crossings by citizens of non-EU countries.

The system collects:

  1. Biometric data.

  2. Information about documents.

  3. Data on entry and exit.

  4. History of border crossings.

In Poland, it is stated that the new system will help strengthen security and speed up information exchange between services.

Poland is preparing to launch new systems for controlling foreigners

During a meeting of the Council on large EU information systems, Polish authorities also discussed the launch of other digital control tools.

These include the ETIAS system for pre-approval of visa-free travel and the EURODAC database, which will contain biometric data of foreigners.

The Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the new solutions will allow the police, border guards, and security services to exchange information faster and combine data from various sources.

What does this mean for Ukrainians in Poland?

For Ukrainians who regularly travel or work in Poland, the launch of the EES means an increase in digital border control and a gradual transition to a fully automated entry verification system.

In the future, the EU plans to use biometric data and centralized databases more actively for migration and security control.
