In 1962, Watson, Crick, and Wilkins received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for this discovery.

This discovery laid the foundation for modern genetics and molecular biology. Despite his successes, Watson expressed controversial views on intellectual differences among races, which led to his loss of scientific positions and public respect.

Due to his scandalous statements, he was dismissed and stripped of honors, a unique case among Nobel Prize laureates.

James Watson left the world in hospice after treatment for an infection. This scientist was the founder of a new era in genetics, contributing greatly to the advancement of science.
