Washington Rally in Support of Ukraine

According to Главком: Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for a march to the Russian Ambassador's residence, timed to coincide with the approaching four-year mark of the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war. The event featured speeches from members of the Ukrainian community and international organizations. Speakers called for increased military aid to Ukraine and the imposition of further sanctions against Russia, highlighting the critical situation in temporarily occupied territories and the issue of deported Ukrainian children.

Pre-march speakers included Jovita Neliupšienė, the European Union's Ambassador to the United States, and Denys Senik, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Ukraine. In his address, Denys Senik emphasized Ukraine's urgent need for Tomahawk missiles, noting that President Donald Trump had declined to provide them. The rally comes as U.S. congressional debates over further aid packages for Ukraine continue.

Andrii Smolenskyi, a Ukrainian soldier wounded in the war, also spoke at the rally, which aimed to draw attention to Ukraine's military requirements. Nadia Shaporynska, one of the march's organizers and founder of US Ukrainian Activists, stated that Ukraine seeks a just and lasting peace.

"Ukraine is doing everything possible to bring peace as soon as possible," said Nadia Shaporynska.

Conditions in Temporarily Occupied Territories

A significant focus of the discussion was the dire situation in temporarily occupied regions such as Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, where residents face a collapse of basic services. Ukraine's Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate released data on organizations and individuals involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children. According to this information, teenagers from occupied territories are being transported to Russia via a Russian project called the 'Cultural Card.' The forced transfer of children is considered a war crime under international law.

The march also saw participation from Ukrainian athletes, including Vladyslav Heraskevych, who was recently disqualified from the 2026 Winter Olympics for insisting on wearing a helmet depicting fallen Ukrainian athletes. This incident underscored the importance of international support for Ukraine and the necessity of increasing military assistance.

The Washington demonstration occurred amid growing global backing for Ukraine in its war with Russia. Participants highlighted critical humanitarian issues, particularly the deportation of children, which has alarmed the international community. Such events help raise awareness about the situation in Ukraine and increase pressure on international institutions to provide aid, including military support, which is crucial for upholding Ukraine's sovereignty and achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
