Eight Ukrainian Regions Still Face Power Outages Following Russian Strikes
Ukraine's Power Grid Situation
According to Главком: As of the morning of June 1, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy has provided an update on the state of the national power grid. Due to ongoing Russian shelling, electricity remains cut off for some consumers across eight regions. Repair crews are working around the clock to restore service, and according to the Ministry, no additional power restrictions are expected to be imposed on June 1. The Ministry is also urging citizens to use electricity sparingly during evening peak hours, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Regions Affected by Power Outages
Currently, partial power outages are affecting consumers in the following regions:
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Zhytomyr
- Zaporizhzhia
- Odesa
- Sumy
- Kherson
- Kharkiv
- Chernihiv
Energy workers are operating in an intensified mode to restore electricity to all subscribers as quickly as possible.
“Restoration work continues around the clock. No restrictions are forecast for today. For any changes in power supply, check the official resources of your distribution system operators,” the Ministry of Energy stated.
In addition, Ukraine is actively preparing for the upcoming heating season. The Cabinet of Ministers is spearheading the creation of a national reserve of autonomous generation capacity, which will include mobile power plants, cogeneration units, boiler houses, transformers, and other equipment. The government also plans to simplify procedures for the construction and restoration of energy infrastructure facilities.
“This helps reduce the load on the system,” the Ministry of Energy added.
Ukraine's energy system remains under severe strain due to external threats, particularly Russian attacks. Despite these challenges, Ukrainian authorities continue to take steps to ensure a stable power supply, focusing on restoration efforts and winter preparation. The establishment of a national reserve of autonomous generation is a critical move toward strengthening the country's energy security, helping to mitigate risks associated with potential power disruptions.
In light of the ongoing power challenges, the Ukrainian government has allocated significant funds to enhance the resilience of its energy infrastructure. This initiative aims to strengthen the power grid against potential threats and ensure uninterrupted service for citizens.
