Electricity Supply Situation in Ukraine on May 7, 2026

According to Главком: No power consumption restrictions are expected in Ukraine on May 7, 2026. This update comes from a statement issued by Ukrenergo and reported by Glavcom. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined plans for preparing for the upcoming winter and rebuilding infrastructure destroyed by Russian attacks. Approved resilience strategies for every region are designed to strengthen the stability of the energy system.

Energy Infrastructure Restoration Plans

During a meeting held on April 2, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the construction of a new energy system. These resilience plans were coordinated and approved at the level of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council. As part of these initiatives, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 12.85 billion to protect critical infrastructure, covering 209 facilities in frontline regions and the Kyiv area.

The President stressed the need for timely action at the community and regional levels: 'Every facility that matters must be protected.'

The total estimated cost for restoring and modernizing Ukraine’s energy sector over the next decade stands at $90.6 billion. This figure is 34% higher than the previous damage assessment, underscoring the severity of the challenges the country faces.

Ukrenergo also advises limiting the use of high-power electrical appliances during evening hours, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. These measures aim to ensure a stable energy supply as preparations for winter continue.

These developments highlight the critical importance of maintaining a stable energy system in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict and the pressing need for infrastructure recovery. The decisions made reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and winter readiness, which is vital for the population and the national economy. A key part of this process involves securing financial resources for reconstruction, helping the country adapt to new challenges in the energy sector.

As Ukraine continues to bolster its energy infrastructure, it is essential to consider the broader context of the ongoing challenges faced by the nation. Recent reports indicate that Russian strikes have left seven regions without power, further complicating recovery efforts. The estimated reconstruction costs are staggering, reaching up to $90 billion.
