Gas Infrastructure in Russia Hit by Ukrainian Drone Strikes
Drone Attacks Target Belgorod Region and Moscow Area
According to Главком: On the night of July 7, Ukraine launched drone strikes against the Belgorod region and the Moscow area. In Belgorod, the attack sparked a fire at the Belgorod Linear Gas Pipeline Management facility, a branch of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow, which is part of the Gazprom PJSC structure. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that air defense systems were activated, reporting that nine drones heading toward the Russian capital were shot down by the Ministry of Defense's forces.
As a result of the attack, operations at Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Domodedovo airports were restricted. Additionally, Zhukovsky, Kaluga, and Krasnodar airports temporarily suspended their activities. Russian Telegram channels claimed that over 300 Ukrainian drones were detected in the airspace, though this information has not been officially confirmed.
Explosions in Yaroslavl
Separately, on the night of July 6, a series of explosions occurred in Yaroslavl, triggering a fire at the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery. According to GLAVKOM,
“Belgorod was attacked. It is likely that a missile strike targeted energy infrastructure facilities.”
These incidents highlight the growing tension in the region and the heightened military activity from both sides.
The attacks underscore an escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with drones emerging as a primary tool for combat operations. Ensuring airspace security has become a top priority for Russia, as reflected in the measures taken to protect airports.
Events in Belgorod and Yaroslavl reveal the vulnerability of critical infrastructure, which could have serious implications for the region's energy security and the national economy.
