NATO risks losing the war against Russia: warning from the Swedish Air Force commander
According to hvylya.net: NATO allies are at risk of losing 'the next decisive conflict in Europe' if they do not begin to actively develop their weapons systems. This was stated by the commander of the Swedish Air Force, Jonas Vikman, at the Defence IQ International Fighter conference.
'If we cannot evolve faster, if we cannot innovate and learn under pressure as Ukraine does, we may lose the upcoming war against Russia,' he noted.
According to Vikman, the Ukrainian example is a 'masterclass in accelerated adaptation' and serves as a reminder that the side that learns fastest wins. Speaking about technological changes, he emphasized that tactics are being exchanged weekly, and much of the weaponry that was once supplied to Ukraine is no longer used as intended.
Changes in defense and NATO's response
Recent Russian drones that landed in Europe have prompted NATO to strengthen its presence on the eastern flank. This situation has also spawned the idea of creating a 'drone wall' - a modern air defense system to combat unmanned aerial vehicles. The commander of the Swedish Air Force urged industry and academia to collaborate to ensure readiness for future threats, emphasizing the need for active engagement in this direction.
The commander of the Swedish Air Force warns that NATO must actively develop its weapons systems and timely adapt to changes in technologies and combat tactics. Recent events have shown how important readiness for future threats is and the ability to adapt to new conditions of conflict.
