Gas Imports into Ukraine: April 2026

According to Главком: Ukraine imported just 29 million cubic meters of gas in April 2026, the smallest monthly volume since December 2024. This figure represents a dramatic 28-fold drop compared to March 2026, when imports reached 789 million cubic meters, and is eight times lower than the 219 million cubic meters imported in April 2025. Poland and Hungary were the primary suppliers during this month.

Poland delivered 23.8 million cubic meters, accounting for 83% of total imports. Hungary supplied 4.8 million cubic meters between April 16 and 22. Over the first four months of 2026, Ukraine imported a total of 2.21 billion cubic meters of gas-2.1 times more than during the same period in 2025. Poland led as the top supplier with 1.03 billion cubic meters, or 46.8% of all imports.

Import Volumes and Gas Tariffs

Between January and April 2026, Hungary contributed 779 million cubic meters (35.3%), Slovakia 280 million cubic meters (12.7%), and the Southern route 117 million cubic meters (5.2%). Amid these shifts, Naftogaz of Ukraine and eight other suppliers have locked in annual natural gas tariffs valid through April 30, 2027. Residential prices range from 7.96 to 9.99 UAH per cubic meter, while businesses face rates around 30 UAH per cubic meter.

The sharp decline in Ukraine's gas imports signals major changes in the country's energy market, particularly a reduced reliance on foreign fuel.

Import volumes by country for January–April 2026 are as follows:

  • Poland - 1.03 billion cubic meters (46.8%)
  • Hungary - 779 million cubic meters (35.3%)
  • Slovakia - 280 million cubic meters (12.7%)
  • Southern route - 117 million cubic meters (5.2%)

Natural gas tariffs for households vary from 7.96 to 9.99 UAH per cubic meter, while commercial rates stand at roughly 30 UAH.

The reduction in imports may stem from both lower gas consumption and increased domestic production. At the same time, fixing gas tariffs through 2027 could shape consumer demand and Ukraine's economic outlook, as price stability remains a key factor for households and businesses alike.

The recent drop in gas imports highlights significant shifts in Ukraine's energy landscape. As the country adapts to these changes, understanding the impact on gas pricing is crucial.
