Ukraine and Estonia Finalize 2026 Defense Plan: €110 Million Allocated for Drones
Defense Ministers of Ukraine and Estonia Hold Talks in Kyiv
According to Главком: Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov met with his Estonian counterpart Hanno Pevkur in Kyiv to outline their strategic cooperation priorities for 2026, with a strong emphasis on boosting the technological capabilities of Ukraine’s armed forces. Estonia reaffirmed its commitment to allocate at least 0.25% of its GDP to military aid for Ukraine, which is expected to total approximately €110 million in 2026. The bulk of this funding will go toward acquiring drones and counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems.
Estonia also co-leads the IT Coalition alongside Luxembourg. This coalition has raised a total of €1.4 billion to develop communication systems and deploy technological solutions. Estonia’s contribution to IT-related projects in 2026 will be €5.7 million. Mykhailo Fedorov expressed gratitude for an additional $13 million contribution to the PURL mechanism, which enables Ukraine’s defense forces to quickly address urgent needs on the battlefield.
“Estonia has confirmed its decision to allocate at least 0.25% of its GDP to support Ukraine-amounting to about €110 million in 2026. The main focus is on purchasing drones and anti-UAV equipment. This strengthens our capabilities in the most critical areas of warfare,” said Mykhailo Fedorov.
He also emphasized that “we are working on technology exchange to turn innovations into a real advantage on the battlefield.”
Ongoing Cooperation and Support
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense continues to accelerate the delivery of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to the front lines, designed for logistics and evacuation missions. This high-level meeting underscores Estonia’s sustained defense support and the strategic partnership between the two countries amid current challenges.
The talks highlight the importance of international backing for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict, particularly in military technology. Cooperation with Estonia-an active participant in defense initiatives-could prove decisive in enhancing Ukraine’s military capabilities and adapting to modern threats.
