Збір гречки зменшився на 15%: що потрібно знати українцям про ситуацію на ринку.

The buckwheat harvest in Ukraine has decreased by 15% compared to last year, but there is no threat of a shortage. However, the rise in prices for buckwheat will cause an artificial hype in the media, according to the director of the 'Millers of Ukraine' association, Rodion Rybychynskyi.

Farmers' economic choice

The reason for the decrease in production lies in the economic choice of farmers. Buckwheat is less profitable than sunflower, soybean, or rapeseed, and therefore it is not as advantageous to grow, even taking into account export duties.

'Some newspaper or Telegram channel started to panic about buckwheat prices, and this provoked a real price increase due to pseudo-demand,' Rybychynskyi said.

Similar panic regarding buckwheat

Similar market panic movements regarding buckwheat are observed periodically. However, according to the expert, diabetes is the main reason for the demand for buckwheat, so ordinary people should not panic. In Ukraine, there are enough other cereal crops that can replace buckwheat in diets.

According to the director of the 'Millers of Ukraine' association, Rodion Rybychynskyi, the buckwheat harvest in Ukraine has decreased by 15% compared to the previous year. The reason for this is the economic choice of farmers who opt for growing other, more profitable crops. Unfortunately, the artificial demand for buckwheat has caused a price increase, but the expert urges not to react to this panic, as for many Ukrainians, buckwheat is an important crop due to its beneficial properties, especially for people suffering from diabetes.
