Clothing Quality in Israel Called Its Biggest Downside by Ukrainian Expat
Why Finding Good Clothes in Israel Is a Major Challenge
According to Главком: Anna, a Ukrainian who has lived in Israel for over three years, has shared her thoughts on what she sees as the country's biggest drawback: the lack of access to quality clothing. In her view, the issue stems from poor fabric quality-mostly Chinese polyester sold at inflated prices. She says that when she first moved, she tried to find decent items, but now when she visits malls, she leaves disappointed because the racks are filled with low-quality garments.
'I don't buy clothes in Israel. When I first moved, I still looked around and bought some things. Now, you just go to a shopping center and leave frustrated every time, because all the shelves and hangers are full of Chinese polyester that costs three times more than what you can get on Shein or Temu. I want normal fabric-I want linen, I want cotton-but not for 300 shekels for a plain white cotton T-shirt,' Anna explains.
To get around this, she orders clothing from Ukraine, with packages sent by her mother. She also visits outlets when traveling abroad, where the fabric quality is better than what's available in Israel. However, she still buys certain items locally, such as:
- jeans
- socks
- sneakers
'This is a downside of Israel. But you know, everywhere has its pros and cons. You either accept it and learn to live with it, or you don't,' she adds.
How Ukrainians Adapt to Life in Israel
For other Ukrainians like Aliona, who moved abroad in 2021, the biggest hurdle was not knowing the language, which made adapting to a new country more difficult.
The poor clothing quality in Israel, as highlighted by Anna, is a significant concern for many immigrants looking for comfort and style in their new environment. It also underscores the challenges Ukrainians face when relocating abroad, particularly when it comes to adjusting to the local market. This issue can affect not only personal comfort but also overall satisfaction with life in a new country.
