Difficulties of Integration for Ukrainians in Canada

According to Главком: A Ukrainian woman named Yulia, who emigrated to Canada three years ago, expressed her thoughts on the difficulties of integrating Ukrainians into Canadian society in her Instagram blog. She noted that these difficulties are due to different historical experiences and psychological states. In particular, Yulia emphasized that emigration accelerates aging due to the constant stress faced by immigrants.

In her blog, Yulia pointed out that Canadians, unlike Ukrainians, grew up in a country that has not experienced revolutions, famine, and other historical traumas.

“Canadians grew up in a country where there have never been revolutions, famine, and foolish neighbors. They have always had money, food, and security. They do not save for a rainy day because they are not traumatized like we are,” she shared.

According to her, in Canada, people can plan vacations a year in advance, comfortably take out loans, and live without unnecessary stress, which Ukrainians do not understand.

The Impact of Emigration on Health

Yulia also noted that the problems of integration are not limited to a language barrier or financial difficulties.

“It's hard here not because of language, work, or money, but because of the feeling that you are not from this coordinate system. And that is the loneliest feeling of all,” she emphasized.

These experiences complicate the lives of Ukrainian immigrants and intensify feelings of loneliness.

Yulia also drew attention to the impact of emigration on physical and mental health. “I have been living in Canada for three years, and there is one thing that no one talks about. Emigration ages you very quickly. And it is not about care, food, or money. It is about constant tension,” she stated. According to her, although immigrants may live in comfortable conditions, their psyche still feels the lack of home. “But they look as if they have paid for it with their health. I think this is the real price of emigration, which is seldom discussed,” Yulia added.

Thus, Yulia's publication sparked active discussions among users, who also expressed their thoughts and feelings about emigration and integration into a new society. Her words reflect the realities of immigrant life, which involve challenges accompanying relocation to a new country. Her publication was quoted by the publication 'Glavcom'.

The thoughts expressed by Yulia highlight the importance of discussing the problems faced by immigrants, particularly Ukrainians, who are trying to adapt to their new environment. The situation she describes reflects not only individual experiences but also broader social and cultural contexts in which Ukrainians in Canada find themselves. The issues of integration, mental health, and social support are relevant for many immigrants, which may contribute to the development of assistance and support programs in the future.
