According to Главком: Ukrainian scientists have compiled data on the most popular and productive potato varieties for cultivation in the country. Natalia Zakharchuk, a Candidate of Biological Sciences and senior researcher at the Institute of Potato Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, noted that the 'Knyaginya' (Princess) variety demonstrated the highest yield during last year's All-Ukrainian Potato Day event.

Analysis of Potato Plantings in Ukraine

According to the State Statistics Service, professional producers planted potatoes on 18,000 hectares in 2025, an increase of roughly 20% compared to the previous year. However, the Ukrainian Potato Growers Association (UPGA) reports that the actual planting area is at least double the official figure of 18,000 hectares. Potato cultivation is a significant part of Ukraine's agricultural sector, which is a major global exporter of grains and oilseeds.
