Ukrainian Chess Players Secure Major Wins at International Solving Olympiad
Ukrainian Competitors Achieve Top Honors at Chess Composition Event
According to Спортивний комітет: Ukrainian chess solvers delivered an outstanding performance at the International Chess Composition Solving Olympiad, held in late January in Poltava. The competition took place at the V. G. Korolenko Poltava National Pedagogical University, attracting participants from numerous countries. This event highlights Ukraine's growing strength in the specialized and demanding field of chess problem-solving.
The premier category featured 163 competitors, including 12 International Grandmasters, 15 International Masters, and 7 FIDE Masters. Victory in this top tier went to 15-year-old Poltava native Taras Rudenko. A significant achievement also came from Nika Riabenko, who secured first place among juniors, junior women, and women overall, while also finishing sixth in the general standings. Oleksii Solovchuk also posted an impressive result, taking fourth place.
Competition Categories
The Olympiad included various categories for experienced athletes, amateurs, and teenagers born after December 31, 2012. This event served as a key showcase for Ukrainian chess talent, demonstrating their high level of skill and preparation. Success in such a prestigious international forum underscores the depth of Ukraine's chess culture.
