The discussions centered on safeguarding the power system and ensuring its stable operation under martial law. Priority steps were coordinated to boost the company’s performance and stabilize the balancing market. Attention also turned to investment strategy and the launch of long-term projects.
A major focus of the talks was protecting critical assets and building up equipment reserves. Minister Shmyhal outlined targets to strengthen Ukrenergo’s financial stability. These international partnerships are part of broader efforts to modernize and secure Ukraine’s energy sector amid ongoing war.
Restoring Energy Infrastructure
Earlier, Denys Shmyhal and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited a Russian-damaged energy facility in the capital. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted preparations for the coming winter and the rebuilding of destroyed assets. Resilience plans have been approved for every region, and a meeting on their implementation took place on April 2. These regional resilience plans were endorsed and confirmed at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) level.
The Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 12.85 billion under these regional resilience plans. The funds will be used to protect 209 critical infrastructure sites in frontline regions and the Kyiv area.
Denys Shmyhal expressed confidence that 'through joint efforts, we can improve Ukrenergo’s efficiency and strengthen the country’s energy resilience.'
President Zelenskyy emphasized that 'resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country' and stressed the importance of acting swiftly to protect every vital facility.
The Energy Minister’s meeting with the Ukrenergo Supervisory Board underscores the critical need for energy stability amid the ongoing war. The outlined steps for financing and protecting critical infrastructure are part of Ukraine’s strategy to ensure a reliable power system and prepare for the winter season.
