Kharkiv-Kyiv Intercity Service Temporarily Altered, Requiring Passenger Transfer in Poltava
Intercity Kharkiv-Kyiv Train Service Temporarily Restricted
According to Главком: Due to the impact of hostilities and constraints on the power supply, Ukrzaliznytsia will temporarily restrict the high-speed Intercity train service between Kharkiv and Kyiv starting March 18. Passengers traveling from Kharkiv to Kyiv will now need to change trains in Poltava. For instance, those booked on Intercity train #723 from Kharkiv to Kyiv on March 18 must board train #223 from Kharkiv to Poltava at 13:50, then transfer in Poltava to Intercity #723 bound for Kyiv. Original tickets will remain valid for the entire journey, and no exchange or re-issuing is required. The train crew and station staff will provide all necessary information and assistance to help passengers navigate the transfer, according to the Ukrzaliznytsia company app.
Connecting Routes and Other Adjustments
To facilitate passenger convenience and ensure more timely arrivals, Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing connecting routes as part of these changes.
"We currently have a temporary restriction on Intercity train operations to Poltava, with connecting sleeper car routes to Kharkiv,"
a company representative stated. Full Intercity service to Kharkiv is expected to be restored by the end of March. These disruptions are a direct consequence of the ongoing war, which continues to strain Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
It is important to note that other Ukrzaliznytsia routes to and from Kharkiv are operating without changes. The company had previously reported train delays in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions due to security concerns. Additionally, repairs are ongoing on the stairs to the Northern Platform No. 2 at the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station.
These schedule alterations reflect the complex challenges related to energy supply and security in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Ukrzaliznytsia is adapting its operations to prioritize passenger safety while striving to maintain service levels. As restrictions may continue, travelers are advised to monitor the company's official updates for the latest information on routes and timetables.
In addition to the changes affecting the Kharkiv-Kyiv route, Ukrzaliznytsia has also announced modifications to suburban train services in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions. These adjustments are part of the ongoing efforts to adapt to the challenging conditions caused by the ongoing conflict, ensuring safety and efficiency for passengers across multiple lines.
