Universities of Ireland have joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies

Three universities in Ireland - in Cork, Galway, and Dublin College - have become part of the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, an initiative launched by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. The goal of this coalition is to promote Ukrainian studies in higher education institutions worldwide.

According to the First Lady, the main aim of this initiative is to combat Russian propaganda and distortion of history, as well as to provide the opportunity to study the true history and culture of Ukraine, avoiding imperial narratives.

Ireland is home to over one hundred thousand Ukrainians, making it one of the countries with the highest number of Ukrainians per capita in Europe. Ukrainian students have access to higher education under the same conditions as students from the European Union, thanks to the proactive approach of the Irish Ministry of Education.

“Not only Ukrainians study Ireland, but Ireland itself studies Ukrainian and Ukrainians. This highlights the importance of the joining of three Irish universities to the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies,”

stressed the First Lady.

Currently, the coalition comprises 47 universities from 16 countries around the world, including Finland, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Austria, Canada, Korea, Italy, Japan, the USA, and others. This is very important support for teaching Ukrainian culture and history beyond the borders of Ukraine.

The First Lady of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Ireland for joining this global initiative, emphasizing that this country is an example of strength and resilience in defending its own values.

Ukrainian culture and education are gaining more recognition worldwide, thanks to initiatives such as the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies. However, this is just the first step toward increasing the presence of Ukraine in the global educational sphere.
