Government Considers Fuel Subsidies as Prices Soar
Consumer Support Amid Rising Fuel Costs
According to Главком: The Ukrainian government is actively developing support mechanisms for consumers facing a sharp increase in fuel prices. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko recently met with representatives of the oil products market to discuss ensuring price stability and fuel availability for the public. As of March 9, 2026, the average price for A-95 gasoline was approximately 68.90 UAH per liter, while the average cost of diesel fuel (DP) reached 71.90 UAH per liter. These price hikes are part of a broader economic challenge affecting household budgets across the country.
Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, is working on potential support models for the consumer categories most in need of assistance due to the significant rise in oil product prices.
Yuliia Svyrydenko: 'Our shared task is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel across the nation.'
The government expects market operators-both the state-owned company Ukrnafta and private companies-to ensure adequate fuel supply and stable availability for consumers nationwide.
Monitoring the Market Price Situation
Furthermore, Ukrnafta will serve as a benchmark for fair market pricing. The Prime Minister emphasized that regulatory bodies, specifically the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, must conduct proper monitoring of the price situation and respond to potential cases of market speculation. These steps aim to ensure stability and fairness in the oil products sector, which is intended to support consumers amid rising costs.
These efforts by the Ukrainian government highlight the seriousness of the fuel price situation and its impact on citizens' daily lives. Ensuring fuel affordability is a crucial element of social policy, especially under current economic pressures. It is vital that the developed support models are effective and consider the needs of the most vulnerable population groups, which will help reduce social tension and ensure stability in the oil products market.
