Duration of the 2026–2027 Academic Year Approved by the Cabinet of Ministers
Length of the 2026–2027 School Year
According to Главком: Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has issued a decree setting the 2026–2027 academic year from September 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Under this government decision, regional administrations-including the Kyiv City Military Administration-are required to organize the start of the school year. This move comes as part of broader efforts to maintain educational stability amid ongoing challenges.
Support for Educational Reforms
Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has voiced support for lowering the mandatory competitive score on the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) from 150 to 130. He argued that
“the tasks of the National Multi-Subject Test go beyond the school curriculum.”
To enhance the learning process, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has identified the 'Mriya' app as the best alternative for schools. Currently, 3,860 schools are connected to this application, and its user base has exceeded 630,000 people. Ukrainian educational institutions are also actively using commercial services such as:
- Human
- Yedyna Shkola
- Novi Znannia
- Moya Shkola
Starting in September 2026, 150 lyceums will transition to a new learning model. Under this framework, a lyceum must form a specialized group if at least eight students from the same grade level express interest. The Ministry noted that “the model where an entire class studies the same profile is becoming outdated.” These changes are part of efforts to modernize Ukraine's education system.
These initiatives reflect the Ukrainian government's aim to adapt the education system to modern demands and student needs. Lowering the NMT passing score could open up new opportunities for more applicants, while introducing new learning models in lyceums will help ensure a more individualized approach to education. Such changes are expected to positively impact the quality of learning and better prepare young people for the future.
As the academic year approaches, the integration of innovative tools becomes increasingly relevant. The Mriya app has emerged as a pivotal resource for schools, enhancing educational engagement and streamlining processes. With nearly 4,000 schools now utilizing this application, its impact on the learning environment will be crucial in adapting to the new educational models being implemented across Ukraine.
