Ukraine Approves Compensation Up to 1 Million Hryvnias for Critical Infrastructure Victims
Enhanced Payment Procedures for Victims
According to Пенсії (RSS): The Ukrainian government has introduced updates to the compensation framework for individuals harmed at critical infrastructure sites due to the war. Alongside this, it has endorsed a draft law offering expanded social protections for war veterans and employees affected by workplace accidents.
Under the revised rules, payouts for those injured on critical infrastructure will be as follows:
- 800,000 UAH for persons with a Group I disability;
- 500,000 UAH for Group II;
- 200,000 UAH for Group III.
In cases of fatality at such sites, families will receive 1 million UAH. The system also now includes a mechanism for additional payments if a disability classification changes.
New Social Safeguards for Veterans and Injured Workers
Furthermore, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a legislative proposal introducing fresh social guarantees for combatants and those disabled by war. Notably, the insurance period used to calculate benefits will now cover 14 months instead of 12.
Employees injured in workplace accidents will be eligible for temporary disability benefits immediately upon opening a sick leave certificate. Employers will cover the first 17 days of sick leave, and if the incident is confirmed as an insured event, a supplemental payment of up to 100% of the average salary may be provided.
These changes mark a significant step in supporting people who have suffered losses or injuries due to the war and industrial accidents.
The enhancement of social guarantees for war veterans and individuals with disabilities reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring a decent standard of living for these groups amid a challenging socio-economic climate. Additionally, the revised payment structure could encourage businesses to improve workplace safety, as the upgraded compensation system may heighten employer accountability for worker protection.
In light of these recent developments, the government's commitment to veterans is further underscored by its recent approval of Independence Day payments for veterans in 2026. This initiative not only enhances financial support for those who have served but also reflects a broader strategy to uplift individuals affected by the ongoing conflict.
