UZ-3000: how to get a free train ticket in the low season
Ukrainian Railways is launching a new social program 'UZ-3000'. Now taxpayers will have the opportunity to travel for free on unsold seats in trains during the low season. This was confirmed by Serhiy Leshchenko, a member of the supervisory board of the company.
Previously, expenses for passenger transportation were compensated by profits from freight transportation. However, due to a reduction in freight volumes due to the war, the government committed to finance losses in the passenger transport sector at its own expense.
Leshchenko emphasized that financing passenger transportation from taxes is a practice in Europe that has proven effective. Now it is also in effect in Ukraine, and with 'UZ-3000', passengers will even receive free tickets during the low season. In Europe, there are many discount programs that help railways attract customers and reduce CO2 emissions.
Moreover, this initiative is a manifestation of gratitude to citizens and their feedback. Unsold tickets are being opened as a social program that will operate during periods of low demand when carriages run with a large number of vacant seats.
Explanation
Leshchenko noted that the use of 'premium kilometers' pertains to passenger rights. The 'UZ-3000' program does not require additional expenditures or risks, as it only utilizes unused seats in the low season. It will also not operate during periods of high demand, such as holidays or vacations.
