Ukraine Passes Landmark 'Mentorship Law' to Support 103 Teenagers
Advancing Youth Mentorship in Ukraine
According to Міністерство соц. політики: Ukraine has taken a significant step to formalize and expand mentorship programs for its youth. The Verkhovna Rada passed the 'Law on Mentorship' in late 2025, establishing a legal framework for this activity. This move aims to foster effective relationships between mentors and their young charges. Currently, 103 teenagers in the country are paired with a mentor, reflecting a growing interest in this form of support.
The new legislation clearly defines mentorship, outlines who is eligible to become a mentor, and regulates the processes for training, ongoing support, and matching pairs. These changes are designed to improve the quality of mentorship and ensure proper support for young people across Ukraine. Such initiatives can positively impact teenagers' personal development and social integration, which is particularly vital in a society facing numerous challenges.
Fostering Social Support and Emotional Well-being
The development of a formal mentorship institution in Ukraine represents a crucial advancement in providing social support and promoting the emotional well-being of adolescents. Beyond personal growth, mentors can also assist youth with professional orientation-an increasingly relevant need given the evolving labor market.
Given these benefits, the further implementation and popularization of mentorship are poised to substantially influence the future of Ukraine's younger generation.
As the new mentorship law takes effect, the need for dedicated mentors becomes increasingly urgent. In a related initiative, Ukraine's Ministry is actively seeking mentors for teens in orphanages, highlighting the broader commitment to support vulnerable youth. This effort complements the recent legislative changes and emphasizes the importance of providing guidance to adolescents in various challenging situations.
