VACS extended duties of Timoshenko
Суд над Юлією Тимошенко продовжить термін юридичних зобов'язань до літа 2026 року та скасує заборону на виїзд за кордон.

Developments in Yulia Tymoshenko’s Case

According to Главком: On May 7, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) partially granted a motion from the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), extending Yulia Tymoshenko’s procedural obligations until July 7, 2026. The court ruled that the suspect must appear before a detective from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), a SAPO prosecutor, or the court upon request. Additionally, Tymoshenko is required to notify authorities of any changes to her place of residence or employment.

As part of the ruling, the previous ban on Tymoshenko traveling abroad for political activities was lifted. This decision marks a significant milestone in a case that has been unfolding since the beginning of the year. On January 13, anti-corruption officers conducted a search at the office of the Batkivshchyna party, seizing $40,000. The following day, January 14, NABU and SAPO formally notified Tymoshenko of suspicion in an alleged attempt to bribe three members of parliament from another faction.

Preventive Measures and Reactions

On January 16, the HACC imposed a preventive measure on Tymoshenko in the form of bail set at UAH 33.3 million. The conditions included:

  • Surrendering her international passport,
  • A ban on leaving the Kyiv region without investigative approval,
  • Prohibition from communicating with specific members of parliament.

On January 23, the full bail amount was paid on behalf of the Batkivshchyna leader. However, on January 26, the court rejected Tymoshenko’s appeal to cancel the bail, but allowed her to contact lawmakers and move freely within Ukraine.

On February 16, the Appeals Chamber of the HACC overturned a ruling that had frozen part of the Tymoshenko couple’s assets. Then, on February 26, NABU returned the seized funds, following a decision by the HACC Appeals Chamber.

Yulia Tymoshenko: 'Previous courts overturned the restrictions that barred me from speaking with deputies, then returned the savings they had taken. They also allowed me to travel outside Kyiv. Step by step, this case is falling apart.'

The situation surrounding Yulia Tymoshenko continues to draw public attention, as her case generates significant controversy. The court’s decision to extend procedural obligations while lifting the travel ban underscores the active role of anti-corruption bodies and the ongoing evolution of the investigation. These developments could influence Ukraine’s political landscape, given Tymoshenko’s status as one of the most prominent opposition leaders.

The ongoing developments in Yulia Tymoshenko's legal situation have raised significant questions about the implications of the court's recent rulings. As the investigation into alleged bribery continues, the court's rejection of her appeal highlights the complexities surrounding her case and the potential consequences for her political future. Understanding these dynamics is crucial as the situation evolves.
