Russian athlete's eligibility for the Olympics

Russian freestyle skier Anastasia Tatalina appealed to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) requesting her eligibility for the 2026 Olympic Games.

Tatalina is a member of the Russian military club CSKA, an organization involved in military actions by Russia in Ukraine.

«I represent Russia, and I was very happy when President Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) sent me a telegram after my victory at the world championship», – she stated in April 2022.

Tatalina highlighted a post with the Russian military slogan «we do not abandon our own».

During the award ceremony at the world championship in gravel cycling, a situation arose where the Lithuanian cyclist refused to stand next to the Russian on the podium for a joint photo, indicating the tense relations between athletes from different countries. The Russian freestyle skier has appealed to the FIS for eligibility to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games, which could become a subject of sharp debate in the international sports community.
