Finland Leads Shelter Coalition for Ukraine: What It Means for Communities
Yesterday, a meeting took place between officials from Finland and Ukraine. Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba met with Finland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, with deputies from both countries participating.
The main topic of discussion was cooperation in the area of energy resilience for communities. Oleksiy Kuleba emphasized the importance of modular solutions for power supply and heating that will enable the development of systems in threat conditions.
“Today, shelters are not just a matter of physical protection; they are a fundamental condition for the functioning of a community. Without a safe space, full education, healthcare, and the return of people is impossible. Finland, as the leader of the Shelter Coalition, sets a new standard of support. For us, it is crucial that modern protective structures and dual-purpose facilities appear where they are most needed — in frontline regions. This is an investment in the lives of our people.”
They also discussed support for Ukraine in the physical protection of energy facilities and the development of the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund, which helps implement projects in the energy sector through the mechanisms of the World Bank. Such partnership creates opportunities for the modernization of Ukrainian communities and strengthening resilience.
