US Vice President's Diplomatic Mission to the Caucasus

According to Главком: US Vice President JD Vance is traveling to Armenia and Azerbaijan to discuss the implementation of a key transit corridor. The agreement for this corridor was signed at the White House on August 8th, with US President Donald Trump in attendance. The practical phase of the project, including the start of construction, is scheduled for 2026.

Vance's trip will begin in Yerevan, where he will hold talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, followed by joint press statements. He will then proceed to Azerbaijan, where he will spend Wednesday and Thursday. This visit underscores the United States' active diplomatic role in a region historically fraught with conflict.

The 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' Project

The initiative, named the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,' involves creating a 43-kilometer corridor through southern Armenia. This corridor will provide Azerbaijan with a direct land connection to its Nakhchivan exclave. The agreement is a trilateral pact between the US, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. The American private firm TRIPP Development Company has secured exclusive rights to develop the project.

A critical stipulation of the deal is that Yerevan retains full sovereignty over the territory, including its customs, taxation, and security systems. This provision is vital for ensuring regional stability and Armenia's national interests.

The Vice President's visit highlights the importance of international cooperation in the Caucasus, a region marked by ongoing tensions. The successful implementation of this transit corridor could significantly impact the regional economy by creating new trade routes and development opportunities. However, the project's success hinges on respecting Armenian sovereignty and carefully balancing the interests of all parties involved.
