Veteran Returns to Migration Service After 3.5 Years on the Front

Veteran Returns to Migration Service
Ветеран повертається до служби з новими силами після тривалого перебування на передовій.

Yevhen Yasinovskyi is 62. In April 2022, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Three and a half years — on the Zaporizhzhia front. Without rotation, without respite. Only in October 2025 did he return to civilian life — and to his favorite job at the migration service.

“Now I will have to get used to it again,” smiles Yevhen. “When the full-scale invasion began, I couldn’t stay aside. I put aside my documents — and took up arms.” The decision came quite naturally, without any drama.

At the front, he kept in touch with his colleagues, joking that “as long as I’m there, you’ve got the rear covered.” And his colleagues supported him, waited, passed on essentials, and visited when they could.

Yevhen Mykhailovych has been working at the migration service for 18 years. His area is working with refugees and people seeking protection in Ukraine. Among the stacks of documents in his office, a large Mexican sombrero immediately attracts attention — his comrades know him by the callsign “Padre.” After three and a half years of war, Yevhen returned to his department.

He says that getting used to civilian life is not easy, but now he appreciates every day of peace and every person who seeks help even more.

“We help those who were forced to leave their homes. And I know what it’s like — when you are received and not left all alone with your troubles.”

“The best medicine after the front is working among people you can help.”
