Commemorating the 108th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Flag Raising
According to Главком: On April 29, 2026, the Naval Flag of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was raised near the building of the Kyiv City State Administration to mark the 108th anniversary of the first hoisting of Ukrainian flags on ships of the Black Sea Fleet and at the Sevastopol fortress. This date carries profound historical weight: it was on April 29, 1918, that Ukrainian banners were first flown on Black Sea Fleet vessels. Later, in July of that same year, the Naval Flag of the Ukrainian State Fleet was officially adopted.
The ceremony took place under martial law amid ongoing Russian armed aggression. Raising the flag above the capital’s city hall served as a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine’s defenders and a powerful symbol of national unity in the fight for independence.
Ukrainian Navy Combat Operations
As part of current military operations, the Ukrainian Navy destroyed an enemy unmanned surface vessel near one of Odesa’s ports. In Crimea, three Russian Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun systems were struck, and one mobile enemy fire group was eliminated. Additionally, a Russian BK-16 high-speed landing craft (Project 02510) was hit in Novoozerne. These missions were carried out by Ukrainian Navy units in coordination with the Special Operations Forces, demonstrating their capability to operate effectively under challenging conditions.
This event not only highlights the historical significance of the Ukrainian fleet but also underscores the contemporary context of Ukraine’s wartime struggle. The flag raising has become an emblem of resilience and patriotism in the face of ongoing aggression. The active engagements by the Navy further attest to their readiness to defend national interests and territorial integrity, playing a crucial role in sustaining morale during the war.
