New Archaeological Findings Near Stonehenge

According to НВ — Техно: On June 18 at 11:30 PM, archaeologists uncovered a previously unknown historical site within a residential development, located 5 kilometers (approximately 3 miles) from Stonehenge. Excavations revealed two deep pits positioned 120 meters apart, each originally housing four-meter-tall wooden posts. These posts formed a precise alignment: they marked the sunrise during the summer solstice and the sunset during the winter solstice. Radiocarbon dating indicates the structure was actively used around 2950 BCE.

Artifacts and Their Significance

In addition to the main features, researchers excavated 48 smaller pits containing a range of artifacts. These included pottery fragments, animal bones, worked flint, and charcoal. One pit yielded a disc-shaped knife thought to represent a solar disk. Notably, the pottery found at the site closely matches examples from the Orkney Islands, suggesting cultural links across ancient Britain.
