Foreign passports with extended validity: who needs to replace the document
According to hvylya.net: The time for change has come for holders of foreign passports! The Ukrainian government has decided to abolish the temporary procedure for extending the validity of these documents. Therefore, starting from October 29, 2025, it will no longer be possible to travel abroad with passports whose validity has been extended. Now, to travel abroad, one must have a biometric passport with a validity of up to 10 years.
The new rules stipulate that Ukrainian citizens aged 16 and older can obtain a 10-year passport, while minors under 16 are issued a document valid for up to four years. Now every citizen, even a child, must have their own individual passport. If there are issues crossing the border due to an expired passport, Ukrainians are advised to contact the consulate or embassy to obtain documentation for their return home.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that these changes comply with international ICAO standards, as most countries and airlines do not recognize passports with a validity of over 10 years. It is also worth noting that Ukrainians can authenticate in the 'Diia' application even without using BankID.
