Ukraine-Russia Negotiations

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that any negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin must take place before winter begins, and only on neutral ground-neither in Russia nor in Ukraine. Possible host countries include:

  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • Middle Eastern nations
  • The United States

Notably, the decision to invite the parties to such a meeting rests with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Meeting on the Sidelines of the G7 Summit

On the margins of the G7 summit held in Évian-les-Bains, France, Zelenskyy and Trump met face-to-face. The U.S. delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while Ukraine was represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov. The G7 summit concluded with an official working session titled 'Building Peace and Security for Ukraine and Europe,' which also marked the first multilateral G7-Ukraine meeting.

Zelenskyy stressed the urgency of dialogue, stating:

“I know that Putin, through various leaders, has repeatedly offered to come to Moscow. But that is a game. We do not play such games. A neutral country is needed-neither Russia nor Ukraine. The reasons are obvious.”

He added:

“It is very important to try to organize such a meeting before winter sets in. Russia must understand that if we survived a very tough winter, the next one will not be easy for them either.”

This underscores his push for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

This statement highlights the critical role of international diplomacy amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. Holding talks on neutral territory could represent a significant step toward a peaceful settlement of the protracted conflict. The final format and location of the meeting hinge on external factors, particularly the stance of the United States, reflecting the influence of global powers in the process.
