Ukraine to Receive 10,000 'Lens 3.0' Drones This Year, Zelenskyy Accepts First Delivery
Ukrainian President Visits Germany
According to Главком: During a visit to Germany on February 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted the first 'Lens 3.0' strike drone at a QFI production facility. This delivery marks the beginning of a major supply plan, with Ukraine's military set to receive 10,000 of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) this year from the joint Ukrainian-German venture. The delivery of these advanced drones is part of a significant ramp-up in Western military aid to counter the ongoing Russian invasion.
The 'Lens 3.0' drone was designed by the Ukrainian company Frontline Robotics and is being manufactured at the QFI plant in Germany. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also attended the handover ceremony. This multi-purpose UAV is equipped with an AI-supported visual-inertial navigation module. Its technical specifications include:
- A payload capacity of up to 4 kg;
- An operational range of up to 15 km;
- A flight time of up to 60 minutes.
The planned delivery of 10,000 drones produced at this facility is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of Ukrainian forces. Zelenskyy's trip to Germany also coincides with his participation in the Munich Security Conference, where his main address is scheduled for February 14.
“Today I accepted the first jointly manufactured strike drone. We saw the production line and the drone's first flight. This is modern Ukrainian technology. Battle-tested. Equipped with artificial intelligence. It will strike, conduct reconnaissance, and protect our soldiers. And this year, 10,000 drones produced here will be transferred to Ukraine and will strengthen our troops.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The President also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with Germany and other European nations, stating, “I am convinced that Ukraine is a strong partner, a good partner with real experience gained through this war.”
Significance of the Drone Transfer
The handover of the 'Lens 3.0' drone represents a key milestone in military cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, highlighting the growing support from Western allies. The speed of deliveries and the advanced technology integrated into the drone could substantially alter the dynamics on the battlefield, which is of critical importance for the Ukrainian armed forces as they face a larger adversary.
Zelenskyy's participation in the Munich Security Conference will further promote international dialogue and help attract new partners to support Ukraine in its efforts to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
