President Zelenskyy's Address

According to ХВИЛЯ: In a national address on January 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that intelligence reports indicate Russia is preparing a new, massive strike. He stressed the critical need for international partners to recognize this reality, arguing that such aggression undermines diplomatic talks. Zelenskyy also noted that Kyiv is currently facing its most severe energy and heating crisis since the war began, a situation exacerbated by relentless attacks on infrastructure.

Grid Repairs and Attack Aftermath

To restore the capital's power grid, crews from across Ukraine, including frontline regions, have been mobilized. The President detailed the human cost of recent attacks, citing a tragedy in the Kyiv region where a married couple was killed by Russian forces in their own apartment. Their 4-year-old child was rescued by Radio Liberty journalist Marjan Kushnir. Separately, Sergeant Vladyslav Rozhkovskyi (call sign Omar) of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade rescued civilians after a drone strike on a passenger train.

Major General Khmar of the Security Service of Ukraine reported on special operations conducted by the Alpha unit behind enemy lines and on tightened controls over military production. President Zelenskyy also met with volunteer Tata Kepler to discuss advancements in tactical medicine. The meeting concluded with an agreement to draft proposals for improving combat medic training and the wounded evacuation system.

“The search for and procurement of this equipment should have happened before this winter. The city authorities in Kyiv must act much faster now to make life easier for people by February at the latest. Especially since everyone in the government is ready to help.”

This context highlights why swift action from local authorities and sustained international support are indispensable for the nation's resilience. The situation demands continued focus on strengthening defenses, preparing for potential new assaults, and relentlessly working to repair critical energy infrastructure under fire.
