Zelenskyy's Response to Criticism Over Rare Meetings with Parliament

According to Главком: In response to criticism about his infrequent meetings with lawmakers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that some members of parliament are actively working against Ukraine's interests. Zelenskyy made these remarks during a closed-door meeting with journalists, which included a representative from the publication 'Glavkom,' where he addressed the state of communication between himself and the legislature. He noted that meetings with deputies are rare and typically occur in a closed format with his own 'Servant of the People' party faction.

Political Infighting Amidst War

Zelenskyy stressed his commitment to unity and his desire for parliament to function effectively. However, he said the public stance of some parliamentary faction representatives is currently not conducive to unity.

“I am for unity, for parliament to work. But today, the public position of some representatives of parliamentary factions is clearly not aimed at unity. There is also the non-public position of some representatives who travel abroad and communicate with various European institutions in ways that worsen conditions for Ukraine – and this is also quite destructive,” he stated.

Zelenskyy also addressed the issue of political infighting during wartime, declaring it senseless:

“This is all because political struggle is ongoing. I believe political struggle cannot happen now. I don't see the point – there are no elections. A war is going on. Why waste your energy on political struggle? But there are those who spend it on exactly that, and not on unity and work for the sake of Ukraine.”

For her part, MP Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk reported on a group within the 'Servant of the People' faction that is sabotaging parliamentary votes.

President Zelenskyy's comments highlight significant internal divisions within Ukraine's parliament, which risk hampering the effectiveness of state institutions during a time of war.
