Ukraine Proposes Drone-for-Missile Swap with the United States
Request for PAC-2 and PAC-3 Missile Systems
According to Главком: During an online briefing with journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems from Western partners. He proposed a technical and drone assistance package in exchange, emphasizing that these missiles are Ukraine's priority, as the country does not seek to expand its military capabilities by acquiring additional launcher systems. This request comes as Ukraine continues to defend its airspace against frequent missile and drone attacks.
Zelenskyy also commented on the proposed "Drone Deal" program with the United States, under which Ukraine is prepared to transfer its own interceptor missile designs in exchange for PAC-3 missiles.
"We have indeed proposed to the United States-and for us, this is a priority, they are a strategic partner-we have proposed a Drone Deal. It includes all our relevant drones and our technologies," the President stated.
He stressed that this offer was a systematic proposal directed exclusively at the United States. Although the Drone Deal has not yet been signed, Zelenskyy expressed readiness for cooperation and a desire to conclude an agreement with the U.S. President.
International Cooperation in Defense
Furthermore, the Ukrainian President noted that the country is ready to provide expert assistance to Middle Eastern nations, highlighting the importance of international defense collaboration.
"To be honest, we don't want to spread ourselves too thin. That's why Patriots are a priority for us. We are talking about different missiles: PAC-2, PAC-3," he added.
Ukraine's request for PAC-2 and PAC-3 missile systems reflects the nation's strategic priorities in strengthening its defensive capabilities amid escalating threats. The proposed Drone Deal could mark a significant step in military cooperation with the U.S., though its implementation depends on further negotiations. These actions underscore Ukraine's drive to intensify international defense partnerships, which may influence the regional balance of power and broader international policy.
