Ukraine Has Secured a Full Year's Supply of Fuel, Says President Zelenskyy
Statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the country has secured fuel reserves for at least a year, is prepared to continue strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, and commented on the frontline situation and negotiations. According to the President, Ukraine has stockpiled enough fuel to last a minimum of twelve months, and critical periods have already passed without a diesel shortage. This announcement comes as Ukraine continues to defend its energy grid from Russian attacks.
“Ukraine will not be left without fuel. We have secured reserve volumes for at least a year,” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy further emphasized that Ukraine has reached agreements with several countries for the supply of petroleum products in case of a global shortage. The needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will always be the priority when distributing these resources.
“We are using our weapons. We are defending ourselves. And if we do not hit them in the face, they will hit us and will not even consider us, nor will they feel what war is,” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The situation on the frontline remains tense, with Russia attempting to seize the entire Pokrovsk direction by the end of April. This includes towns such as Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka on this axis. “We need to look deeper into what constitutes a patch of land and what constitutes the real territory of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy noted, pointing to the importance of territorial control.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian President expressed the view that the country currently lacks the necessary security guarantees to consider another step in the peace process. “Ukraine expects strong security guarantees from its partners, but right now they simply do not exist,” he stressed. It is noted that, in the context of regional energy needs, Croatia required a volume of oil to supply Hungary and Slovakia, which could impact the wider situation.
The Importance of Energy Security
Overall, the situation in Ukraine remains complex, with a focus on defense needs and energy security. President Zelenskyy assured that after the Easter holidays, a date would be set for new steps in negotiations. “This operation, frankly speaking, is one and the same. We saw the same footage, but different approaches, different dates. They do not have enough strength for this. They are suffering heavy losses,” Zelenskyy summarized, pointing to the difficulties faced by the adversary.
President Zelenskyy's statement on securing fuel reserves and continuing attacks on Russian energy infrastructure underscores Ukraine's strategy in countering the aggression. As the country prepares for potential difficulties in peace talks, it is crucial to understand that energy security and support for the Armed Forces remain top priorities. Defining the conditions for a peace process and obtaining security guarantees from international partners will be key to the future development of the situation in the region.
As Ukraine secures its fuel reserves, the ongoing conflict with Russia raises questions about potential diplomatic solutions. In this context, Ukraine has put forth a proposal for an energy truce, suggesting the involvement of the U.S. as a mediator. This initiative could play a crucial role in stabilizing the energy situation amid the conflict.
