Ukraine Recaptures 435 Square Kilometers in the South, Delaying Russian Offensive Plans
Ukrainian Forces Liberate Southern Territory
According to Главком: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukrainian forces have retaken up to 435 square kilometers of territory in the country's south over the past month and a half. This significant gain comes as Ukrainian troops also report advances in the Orikhiv direction. The ongoing counteroffensive operations are putting pressure on Russian defensive lines and forcing Moscow to adjust its timeline. Zelenskyy stated that while Russia's strategic goal of seizing the Donbas region remains unchanged, its planned spring offensive there has now been postponed.
During a joint briefing in Kyiv with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, President Zelenskyy provided details:
“In the south of our state over the last month and a half... we have restored control over approximately 400 to 435 square kilometers.”
This demonstrates the sustained activity of Ukraine's defense forces, which continue to reclaim areas previously held by Russian troops.
Advancements in the Orikhiv Sector
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukraine's Armed Forces have liberated nine settlements. Notably, Ukrainian forces have destroyed a record number of Russian military assets, including:
- tanks
- infantry fighting vehicles
- artillery systems
President Zelenskyy emphasized Russia's unchanged strategic aims, stating, “Their main objectives are the east of our state, the capture of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In principle, their plans have not changed.” The liberation of these territories represents a crucial step in Ukraine's fight to restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
These developments confirm the high operational tempo of Ukrainian forces in the ongoing conflict. The recapture of significant territory could influence the strategic situation at the front and boost the morale of both Ukrainian troops and society. The reported delay of Russia's offensive also indicates a dynamic battlefield where both sides are continually adapting their tactics under intense pressure.
