Twin Earthquakes Recorded in Ukraine, Affecting Crimea and Chernivtsi Region
Seismic Activity Detected in Southern and Western Ukraine
According to Главком: Two separate seismic events were recorded in Ukraine on December 15, 2025. The first tremor occurred at 11:47 in the country's southeastern region. Its epicenter was located 10 km deep, approximately 78 km west-northwest of Kerch and 35 km northwest of the town of Shcholkine in Crimea.
A second, smaller earthquake was registered by the Main Center for Special Monitoring in the Dnistrovskyi district of the Chernivtsi region, within the Sokiryanska territorial community. This event measured 2.2 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 2 km. The tremors in the Chernivtsi region were classified as barely perceptible. While Ukraine is not typically associated with high seismic risk, it does experience occasional tremors, particularly in the Carpathian region and Crimea.

Although earthquakes in Ukraine are relatively rare, they can cause public concern, especially in areas where seismic activity is not widely understood.
