12-year-old Yevhen Hrytskov from Kharkiv has become the new champion of the prestigious Japanese sumo tournament Wanpaku sumo and set a new national record. This was reported by the head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine, Lana Vetrova.

The Wanpaku sumo competition took place on August 4 of last year in Tokyo, where Yevhen won in his age category. This was an important achievement as Yevhen became the youngest champion of national children's sumo competitions in Japan.

«And one can imagine the impression it made on all of Japan to announce the Ukrainian Yevhen Hrytskov as the champion in one of their most prestigious martial arts,» Vetrova emphasized.

During the tournament, Yevhen adhered to the traditions of sumo, and the ring was sprinkled with salt, as is customary in this sport. This was important for the athlete, who also demonstrated perseverance, willpower, and training potential.

The official recognition of the record took place in Kharkiv during the opening of the boxing competitions for the city mayor's cup. Now the nomination «Youngest champion of national children's sumo competitions in Japan» will be included in the National Register as a symbol of victory and strength.
