Hazardous Weather Forecast for Ukraine
According to Главком: The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning for dangerous weather phenomena expected across the country on January 28. Conditions including fog, ice accretion, and icy roads are forecast, which are likely to disrupt transportation and the operations of various enterprises. This type of winter weather is common in the region during January and can significantly impact daily life.
A yellow, first-level danger alert is in effect. Fog is predicted for the Right Bank region, reducing visibility to 200-500 meters. Most central and northern areas, including Kharkiv Oblast, are expected to experience ice accretion (glaze ice). Icy road conditions are anticipated nationwide, except in the southern regions and Zakarpattia.
Weather in the Preceding Days
On January 27, Ukraine experienced cloudy weather with mostly no precipitation. In the eastern oblasts, as well as in Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, nighttime temperatures ranged from 11 to 16 degrees below zero Celsius, with daytime highs of 3 to 8 degrees below zero. The forecast for the week indicates consistently low temperatures with nightly frosts and periodic precipitation in the form of snow and wet snow. The most intense snowfall is predicted for the middle of the week. Meteorologists note that these conditions could complicate operations for energy, construction, and utility companies, as well as transport.
These weather phenomena could have a substantial impact on daily life and economic activity in Ukraine. Reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions may lead to transportation delays, which can subsequently affect the supply of goods and services. Organizations and drivers are advised to exercise caution and adhere to meteorologists' recommendations to mitigate risks associated with the severe weather.
