Three Essential Tips for Ukrainian Pensioners to Prevent Card Blockage Abroad
Pre-Travel Financial Planning for Pensioners
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian pensioners planning to travel abroad should take several key steps to prevent their bank cards from being blocked. This advice comes from journalist Iryna Polyakova in a video guide published on the 'Na Pensii' channel. A primary risk, she notes, is relying on a single card from just one bank.
"Traveling abroad with just one card from one bank is highly inadvisable," she stated.
Utilizing Cards from Multiple Banks
The best strategy is to carry cards issued by different financial institutions. For instance, while pension payments might be deposited to an Oschadbank card, it is wise to also have cards from PrivatBank and Monobank. This diversification significantly reduces the risk of financial hardship if one card is suspended.
"If one gets blocked, the other two will still work, and you won't be left without funds," Polyakova emphasized.
She added that these precautions would 'eliminate ninety percent of problems with sudden card blocking.' To avoid potential issues, it is crucial to notify your bank of your upcoming trip. Within your bank's mobile app, locate the security settings section and select the option to 'not block the card when traveling abroad' or 'notify about travel.'
Furthermore, it's recommended to keep a small reserve of cash on hand in case a card is ultimately blocked. As a useful alternative, a virtual card can be created in minutes on a smartphone, usually without any extra fee.
Following these guidelines will help Ukrainian retirees ensure a safer and more comfortable trip overseas. These measures are particularly relevant given current economic conditions, where the risk of card blocks can increase due to various security protocols. For many pensioners, traveling to visit family or for medical care is common, making financial preparedness essential for peace of mind.
