Frost in the Car Interior: A Simple Life Hack for Warmth at -35°C
As the cold weather sets in, many drivers face a problem - even after a long drive, the car interior remains cool. This is especially noticeable during severe frosts when the heating system cannot cope with the task. Auto experts explained why this happens and shared a simple way to make the trip considerably warmer.
Experts note that the main reason for the cold in the cabin lies in the operation of the thermostat and the circulation of the coolant. While the engine is cold, the antifreeze flows in a small circle, quickly heating the heater radiator. But as soon as the temperature reaches about 90 degrees, the thermostat opens, and most of the hot fluid goes to the main radiator, which is cooled by air. As a result, only about a third of the heat enters the heating system - this is clearly insufficient in extreme frosts.
To change the situation, experts advise against expensive repairs and suggest using a simple and affordable method. The life hack involves partially restricting the flow of antifreeze to the main radiator so that more heat goes into the heater.
For this, you can use a regular screw clamp, a vise, or a short segment of a tube with a smaller diameter. This approach helps change the flow ratios from 70% outside to approximately 50/50, significantly raising the air temperature in the cabin.
As specialists emphasize, the result is noticeable even at -35°C. However, after warming up to -10°C and above, the clamp or restrictor should definitely be loosened or removed to prevent engine overheating.
Experts also remind that owners of cars with powerful engines (from 2.0 L) usually do not have problems with warmth - in such systems, heating is more efficient. At the same time, it is important to check the condition of the thermostat: if it is stuck in the closed position, it can cause serious engine damage.
During the winter season, many drivers encounter the problem of coolness in the car interior after a long journey. The main reason for this is the peculiarities of the heating system and the circulation of coolant during the cold. A simple life hack from auto experts can help make the journey warmer by partially restricting the flow of antifreeze to the radiator, allowing more heat into the car interior.
