American weapons 'ready for immediate shipment': NYT on what Ukraine may receive
Supply scheme for weapons to Ukraine
According to hvylya.net: US President Donald Trump announced a new scheme for supplying American weapons to Ukraine, under which NATO ally countries will purchase weapons from the US and then transfer them to Ukraine, reports The New York Times.
According to sources from the publication, most of the weapons available for immediate shipment to Ukraine consist of either weaponry from existing military stockpiles or newly produced goods.
Support from Germany, Norway, and other countries
Germany is ready to acquire two Patriot systems, while Norway has agreed to purchase a third. Trump also revealed that one unnamed country is ready to sell 17 Patriot launchers, as 'they do not need them.'
Other countries, including Switzerland, may also benefit from deals with the US by gaining access to modern military systems.
Weapons for Ukraine
Ukraine may receive not only additional Patriot systems but also ATACMS missiles with wider capabilities for strikes deep into Russia, as well as JASSM cruise missiles, which have longer ranges and can be launched from F-16 fighters.
Currently, Ukraine has about eight Patriot systems, most of which are located around Kyiv, leaving other cities vulnerable to potential Russian attacks.
Cost and situation in Ukraine
The deal will cost billions of dollars: one Patriot battery costs about $1 billion. According to the UN, June has become the deadliest month in the three-year war in Ukraine, with the ongoing offensive of Russian forces in the eastern part of the country.
Ukraine will receive support from NATO ally countries that are willing to purchase weapons from the US and transfer them to the Ukrainian army. In addition to Patriot systems, Ukrainians may also receive missiles with extensive capabilities for strikes deep into Russian territory. The new supply scheme will help Ukraine enhance its defense capabilities against potential threats. However, this support involves billion-dollar expenses and assumes that the conflict in the eastern part of the country may continue for a long time.
