Ancelotti Remains in Charge

According to Главком: Despite a 2–1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Carlo Ancelotti will continue as head coach of the Brazilian national team. The Italian manager has decided to extend his contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation through mid-2030, signaling his confidence in the squad’s future potential.

Brazil’s loss to Norway on that stage was a bitter disappointment for the Seleção, but Ancelotti has no intention of resigning.

“Of course, we are all deeply disappointed. I think up to this point we haven’t had the best World Cup, but today I believe we deserved to win. When moments like this happen, you have to take the defeat as the start of a new phase. We must keep progressing and look for fresh ideas,” the coach stated.

Other Round of 16 Results

The Round of 16 began on July 4, featuring several other matches. These included:

  • Paraguay lost to France 1–0
  • Canada fell to Morocco 3–0
  • Mexico was defeated by England 3–2

Several more fixtures are scheduled in the coming days, including clashes between the United States and Belgium, as well as Switzerland versus Colombia, both set for July 7.

“This loss is not the end, but the beginning of a new cycle. Overall, I felt the game was going our way. We had plenty of scoring chances in both the first and second halves while the score was 0–0. Then we made substitutions to bring freshness and depth to the squad, hoping to secure the win,” Ancelotti emphasized while reflecting on his team’s performance.

As a result, Brazil will continue its journey under Ancelotti’s leadership, with the coach looking ahead to future achievements.

This situation underscores the stability and long-term vision of Brazil’s coaching staff, even after a disappointing tournament run. Ancelotti, drawing on his extensive experience at the highest levels of the sport, aims to implement positive changes based on the lessons learned from this World Cup. The path forward remains open, and the Brazilian team intends to use this setback as a stepping stone for improved results in upcoming competitions.

While Brazil faces challenges on the field, the team has also been affected by injuries, as highlighted by the recent news about Rafinha's absence in the Round of 16. His sidelining adds another layer of complexity as Ancelotti looks to build a resilient squad for future competitions.
