Power Supply Crisis in Poltava Oblast

According to Главком: Intense rainfall and powerful winds have left 69 communities in Poltava Oblast without electricity, causing widespread flooding and power disruptions. The head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Dianychnyi, reported that as of Monday, February 16, 2026, approximately 260 flooding incidents have been logged, with the city of Poltava registering the highest number of reports. This severe weather event is part of a pattern of increasingly frequent and intense storms affecting Ukraine.

Widespread Weather Damage Across Ukraine

The severe weather has not been confined to Poltava. Other Ukrainian regions have also suffered significant consequences. The most affected areas include:

  • Donetsk Oblast
  • Luhansk Oblast
  • Kharkiv Oblast
  • Mykolaiv Oblast

Furthermore, in Kirovohrad Oblast, the Vys River has overflowed its banks, creating additional problems. Due to these hazardous conditions, traffic restrictions have been imposed on the road from Slobidka to Krasnyi Khutir to Kobylianka in the direction of Nadlak, with an organized detour through the villages of Yampil and Yaroshivka.

Vitaliy Dianychnyi has urged local communities to deploy their own equipment and resources to manage the aftermath of the storm.

"State Emergency Service units must be focused primarily on critical cases involving human safety and life," he emphasized.

The situation is currently under control but requires urgent action to mitigate the storm's impact.

This crisis highlights the critical need for local authorities to be prepared for extreme weather events, which are becoming more common in Ukraine. An effective response to natural disasters demands coordinated action from all services to minimize risks to the population and restore normal regional operations. The situation in Poltava may serve as a case study for other oblasts that could face similar challenges in the future.
