Immortality in 7 Years: Gref and Putin Discuss Kurzweil's Predictions
Conference 'Journey into the World of Artificial Intelligence'
At the conference 'Journey into the World of Artificial Intelligence', Herman Gref, the head of 'Sber', discussed the possibility of achieving immortality within the next 6-7 years with Vladimir Putin and Chinese writer Chen Qiufan. Gref cited Raymond Kurzweil's prediction that immortality could become a reality between 2030 and 2035. Putin, in turn, expressed the opinion that people can live to 150 years old, despite the current problems facing Russia.
Health Status and Challenges in Russia
The average life expectancy for men in Russia is 68 years, one of the lowest in Europe. Putin, who is now 72, noted that people used to rarely live to 70, but now one can consider oneself still young at 70. Xi Jinping, during a dialogue with Putin in early September, also emphasized that some experts claim that achieving the age of 150 is possible within this century.
At the same time, Russia faces serious challenges. Hundreds of soldiers die daily in the war against Ukraine, and Putin sends tens of thousands of Russians, including the mobilized, to their deaths. The country's healthcare system is in decline, and issues such as alcoholism, drug addiction, and suicides significantly affect the population.
However, Gref believes that biotechnology is constantly evolving, and human organs can be continuously transplanted, which may contribute to extending life. He stated:
“The longer a person lives, the younger they become, and this may even lead to achieving immortality.” - Herman Gref
The discussion of possibilities for achieving immortality and extending life at the conference indicates a growing interest in biotechnology and medical innovations in Russia. However, the realities faced by the country, including social and economic challenges, may significantly impact the realization of these ambitious plans. The problems related to the war and the state of healthcare raise doubts about the feasibility of achieving the stated goals in the near future.
