British man loses $742 million in Bitcoin: why the search for the cryptocurrency disk ended
James Howells was hoping to find the lost Bitcoins, the well-known cryptocurrency at a municipal landfill
James Howells from Wales has ended his fruitless search for the hard drive containing Bitcoins he lost. The search lasted over 12 years, but the disk was never found at the landfill. The IT specialist once owned 8,000 Bitcoins, but everything went wrong when his ex-girlfriend threw away the disk that contained the keys to the wallet with the digital assets.
The court justified its refusal to allow the search by stating that the hard drive has been in the landfill environment for over ten years and by this time may have been damaged and unusable. The authorities also cite environmental risks and legal restrictions regarding ownership at the landfill.
“The IT specialist was ready to finance the search for the disk himself and only asked for permission from the Newport city council. James Howells was even willing to buy the landfill to find the lost cryptocurrency disk,” the material states.
The story of the search for the Bitcoin disk has officially ended, and even if the search had been allowed, the likelihood that the disk survived is considered extremely low.
Bitcoin Growth Dynamics
As a reminder, the largest cryptocurrency in the world - Bitcoin, continues to show stable price growth. Over the past three months, the digital asset has increased by 41%, and the annual growth rate is almost 26%, reaching a value of $118,018.
After the unsuccessful search for the lost Bitcoin disk at the landfill, James Howells from Wales has stopped attempts to regain access to 8,000 Bitcoins. The authorities refused permission for the search, and the likelihood of finding this disk is very low. Meanwhile, Bitcoin continues to demonstrate sustained price growth, showing positive trends amid the cryptocurrency market.
