Budanov on Russian Drones in Europe: Three True Goals of the Kremlin
The Russians pursue three objectives by launching their drones over European countries, one of which is likely psychological and intended for domestic use. This was stated by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense Kyrylo Budanov in an interview with Il Foglio.
“Putin is preparing the Russians, he wants to destroy in their minds the notion that Europe is worth something, that Europe is strong,” said Budanov.
According to Budanov, the drones in the skies over European countries have a practical purpose concerning their residents. “The Russians are testing your reaction, your ability to make decisions, your readiness to use force. Meanwhile, they are conducting reconnaissance, identifying your systems, understanding how they work and where they are located,” emphasized the head of the GUR.
Negative Consequences of Drone Sightings at European Airports
Reports of a mysterious drone being spotted in the airspace of Palma de Mallorca Airport (Spain) caused chaos for thousands of passengers on Sunday evening as flights were completely suspended for safety reasons. Munich Airport was also temporarily closed due to reports of possible drones near the airfield, but the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky was not confirmed. The tabloid Bild reported on unknown drones over ranges in Germany. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that Russia may be involved in the situation and intrusions into the EU airspace.
The launch of drones in European countries by Russia should interest not only defense structures but also the general public, as it may have serious implications for security and stability in the region.
