Czech Republic is ending the support program for Ukrainian children in schools
According to hvylya.net: The Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic has decided this year to stop supporting Ukrainian schoolchildren. It was officially announced that in the 2025-2026 academic year, the program to assist Ukrainian participants in the educational process will cease to exist. Schools will no longer receive financial support for maintaining Ukrainian-speaking assistant translators, as well as for purchasing special educational materials or programs for the integration of Ukrainian refugee children.
This program lasted for three years and included 193 educational institutions, where at least 10% of students had temporary protection status. Just in the first half of 2025, 89 million crowns were allocated for support. The Ministry justifies this decision by budget constraints and the need to redistribute funds to finance non-teaching staff.
Ukrainian-speaking assistants played a vital role in the adaptation process of children, working as translators, helping students to master the Czech educational system and supporting communication between teachers and Ukrainian families.
The cancellation of this program may significantly complicate the integration process for Ukrainian students into the Czech educational system and make it difficult for schools that have a significant number of children who arrived in the Czech Republic as refugees.
The Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic is abandoning the support program for Ukrainian schoolchildren in the 2025-2026 academic year. Despite the program lasting three years and covering a significant number of educational institutions, financial constraints and the redistribution of funds have led to its closure. This decision may result in complications for the integration of Ukrainian students into the Czech educational system and create additional difficulties for schools where many refugee students study.
