Which checkpoint will allow for a faster return to Ukraine for the holidays
Before the Christmas and New Year holidays, a sharp increase in passenger flow is recorded at the Ukrainian border. The highest load traditionally falls on the western direction, primarily at the checkpoints in Lviv region. This is reported by VisitUkraine.
Only on December 20, almost 67 thousand people crossed the border within Lviv region. The majority were entering Ukraine, with a difference of over 3.5 thousand people between entries and exits. During the weekends, queues of cars and buses were recorded on most routes, with the most challenging situation remaining at “Krakivets” and “Shehyni”.

During peak hours, according to border guards and local public pages, waiting times at the border with Poland can reach up to 20 hours. The most significant traffic accumulations are recorded on the Polish direction, where hundreds of cars and dozens of buses accumulate before the checkpoints.
As of the morning of December 22, the most loaded remain:
-
“Ustyluh”, “Rava-Ruska”, “Shehyni” and “Krakivets” on the border with Poland;
-
individual crossings in Lviv region, where traffic remains slow.

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the least load is currently recorded at the following checkpoints:
-
“Velyka Palad” and “Mali Selmentsi”;
-
most crossings at the border with Romania and Moldova, where queues are minimal or absent;
-
the Slovak direction remains relatively free at “Uzhhorod” and “Malyy Berezniy”.
On the Polish direction, “Nyzhankovychi”, “Hrushev” and “Smilnytsia” are considered to be less loaded, where the number of vehicles is significantly lower than at the most popular checkpoints.
Border guards predict that in the coming days, passenger traffic may increase by approximately 25%. A temporary decrease in traffic is expected directly on the holiday days, while a stable decrease in traffic is anticipated after the first week of January.
Let us remind you that on Christmas, which will be celebrated in Ukraine on December 25, cooling is expected. Meteorologists predict that cooling will begin on December 24.
